Behaviour for Learning

All pupils have the right to learn and all teachers have the right to teach. In order for this to take place successfully in classrooms, high standards of behaviour are essential. To this end, the 4 Rs are supported by our Expectations. Consequences and Rewards, are displayed in every classroom:-

Whilst the emphasis is on rewarding positive behaviour, if learning is interrupted, the classroom teacher will impose a sanction. For more persistent disruption, or in cases of more extreme behaviour, pupils will be referred to their subject leader, progress manager or to a senior teacher. Sanctions imposed at this level may include after-school detention, internal exclusion or temporary external exclusion, in consultation with the Headteacher. In determining a sanction each case is dealt with on an individual basis and every effort is made to ensure the sanction is fair and appropriate.

For pupils whose behaviour is persistently challenging, the school readily accesses support from external agencies such as the Educational Social Worker, Educational Psychology service and the Behaviour Support team. In the most serious cases, a permanent exclusion will be considered, where it to be in the best interests of the whole school community.

Note for Pupils

Ø      eating and drinking are confined to the dining room, Quad and Social Area;
Ø      chewing gum is unacceptable anywhere inside the school building;
Ø      use of mobile phones and MP3 players etc. is restricted to break and lunch times in designated areas only.
