Information about School Nurse Service at Ysgol Clywedog

School Nurse: Sandra Eastwood
Contact via school or Hightown Clinic ~ 01978 364452

The School Nurse makes regular visits to school to promote good health and is available to discuss any health problems you may have with your child.

Continuation of the childhood vaccination programme is continued through school based sessions as follows:

• Year 8 Girls HPV vaccination
• Year 9 & 10 pupils Diptheria, Tetanus and Polio booster.  MMR vaccine if not already received is also offered during these sessions.

Parents are always given consent forms and the dates of the main sessions.

During Year 7 pupils will receive a health questionnaire and BCG questionnaire.

Two MMR vaccines are recommended to give full immunity to Measles, Mumps and Rubella.  If you think your child has only had one or no immunisation against these diseases you can check with your GP or the school nurse.

There have been recent outbreaks of measles in Wales and other parts of Europe.  Measles is highly contagious and can cause serious complications.

Public Health Wales encourage parents to ensure their children are fully protected, particularly if they are travelling with school or otherwise abroad.
